EXPERT INTERVIEW | Baby Skin Phenomenon and Care

UZMAN RÖPORTAJI | Bebek Cildi Fenomeni ve Bakımı

Baby skin is soft, thin, and delicate, requiring special care. Especially in the first few months, parents want to do everything right, and during this process, they receive various information from friends, magazines, or the internet. However, uncertainty and indecision can quickly arise regarding which information is correct, as every baby is different.

So, should powder be applied to baby skin? Should only oil be added to bath water? What should be the correct skincare routine?

Bübchen, together with Dr. Thomas Stiehm, clarifies common misconceptions about baby skin care, sensitive skin characteristics, and popular "baby skin myths," providing reliable information to parents.

IS WIPING OR BATHING BETTER FOR BABY SKIN? | BABY CARE

Is wiping babies with a cloth or sponge better than bathing them?

Even if a soft cotton cloth is used, it is generally more appropriate to regularly bathe the baby in a tub. This is because friction from a cloth can cause the baby's delicate skin to dry out faster.

Bathing babies once or twice a week with lukewarm water is considered a more balanced and appropriate method for baby skin care.

How true is the statement, "Only pure water should be put into the baby's tub"?

Certain oils that do not contain essential oils can be safely added to bath water. For example, special baby oils or base oils like almond oil, wheat germ oil, and sunflower oil are suitable for this use.

Generally, one tablespoon of oil is sufficient for a baby bath. This can support the skin's moisture balance in terms of baby skincare.

As an additional tip, breast milk can also help the skin absorb nourishing substances better. Approximately two tablespoons of breast milk can be added to the oil for this purpose.

This information is considered within the scope of baby bathing and natural skincare methods.

SHOULD BABY BATH WATER BE HOT OR COLD? | BABY BATH TEMPERATURE AND SAFETY

Bath water temperature should not be too hot or too cold. The ideal bath temperature should be between 36–37 °C.

Excessively hot water can dry out and irritate the baby's delicate skin. Additionally, babies may feel pain and heat later than adults. Therefore, checking the water temperature with a thermometer is important to prevent the risk of burns.

Since babies can lose heat even in warm water, the temperature of the bathing room is also important. Therefore, after bathing, the baby should be immediately wrapped in a towel and dried with gentle patting motions.

These recommendations are among the basic rules for baby bath safety and delicate baby skin care.

DO MORE BUBBLES MEAN A CLEANER BABY? | BABY BATH AND BUBBLE USE

The idea that "the more bubbles there are, the cleaner the baby will be" is not a correct approach.

Large mountains of bubbles are not necessary for washing babies. If desired, a light and mild baby bath product (such as Bübchen Bath & Shampoo) can be used.

However, soap and strong cleansers should be completely avoided for cleaning the genital area. Gentle cleaning with just water is sufficient for this area.

To protect the baby's skin, the bath routine can be varied. For example, bathing with only water on some days and using mild bath additives on other days provides a more balanced method for baby skin care.

This approach is recommended for baby bath routines, sensitive skin care, and proper hygiene habits.

IS IT NECESSARY TO FREQUENTLY APPLY CREAM TO SMALL PIMPLES ON BABY SKIN? | BABY SKIN PROBLEMS

Is the statement "It is necessary to frequently apply cream when there are small pimples on baby skin" true?

Neonatal acne, red pimples, or milia (small white spots) can frequently occur in babies, especially in the first few months. This condition usually results from hormonal changes experienced by the mother in the last trimester of pregnancy.

Small skin imperfections that occur during this period are usually not a cause for concern and are generally harmless. Therefore, the most important approach is patience.

To soothe the skin or prevent dryness, special care products suitable for the baby's delicate skin can be used (e.g., Bübchen Milk). These products are developed for baby skin care and sensitive skin protection.

SHOULD BABY HAIR BE WASHED WITH BABY SHAMPOO? | BABY HAIR AND SCALP CARE

Babies' scalps are very delicate, so care must be taken when looking after them.

When washing hair, a small amount of baby shampoo (such as Bübchen Baby Shampoo) can be added to lukewarm water, and the hair can be gently cleaned with the help of a soft cloth. Patience and care are important during this process because the baby's fontanelle has not yet closed in the first few months.

To prevent scalp irritation, baby hair should only be washed when necessary, not too frequently.

These recommendations are important for baby hair care, protecting sensitive scalps, and baby hygiene routines.
